Tiger Tees goes north as Pride splits team

Thursday 20 February 2014, 2:38pm

Group-performed sprinter Tiger Tees is on a mission to regain winning form when he bypasses Sydney on Saturday for the Falvelon Quality at Eagle Farm.

Tiger Tees has won nine races and more than $479,000 in prize money but has not been in the winners' circle since taking out the Group Three Concorde Stakes in September, 2012.

Warwick Farm trainer Joe Pride opted to send Tiger Tees north to avoid a clash with stablemates That's A Good Idea and Terravista who resume in the Group Three Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) at Randwick and had been in good form before their spells.

"I didn't want to have three horses in the one race. Terravista is Tiger Tees' younger brother and is raced by the same connections," Pride said.

"But also, Tiger Tees hasn't won for a while and it is time for him to show us some of his old form."

Tiger Tees has had two trials in preparation for Saturday's return. The latest a win at Randwick on February 11.

Pride is hoping for a softer track in Brisbane where the surfaces have been rock-hard in recent weeks.

"I would be one trainer who wouldn't mind a storm," he said.

Tiger Tees won the 2012 BRC Sprint at Doomben and also ran a great eighth in the Stradbroke Handicap in which he pulled up sore.

"Obviously we would be looking at the winter carnival if he regains form but that is a fair way off so I can't commit him just yet," Pride said.

In-form jockey Glen Colless has been booked for Tiger Tees who will carry 59.5kg.

"Glen has ridden for me and he has always impressed as a jockey who would suit Tiger Tees," Pride said.
