Lilliburlero's breeding is enough to her worth as a broodmare but she has upped the ante with a valuable win in the Group Three Triscay Stakes.
By Redoute's Choice out of Group One winner Regimental Gal, Lilliburlero was a $10 chance in Saturday's Triscay (1200m) for mares at Randwick.
Outsider Southern Girl ($51) took up the lead and stretched out to some four or five lengths clear at the top of the straight.
But Jay Ford was sitting pretty on Lilliburlero and timed his run to perfection.
As the leader weakened, Lilliburlero gathered momentum and went to the line 1-3/4 lengths ahead of Recoinage ($14) with Any Day Will Do ($5) a nose third.
Southern Girl held on for fourth while favourite She's Clean ($2.90) finished sixth, four lengths from the winner, under topweight of 58kg.
"I was happy to be travelling where I was," Ford said.
"I knew we were going fast and I was confident I could reel in the leader.
"She had blinkers on and they helped her as well."
Trainer David Payne said he would look for a similar race although the mare has been entered for the Coolmore Classic.
"That's a long way away. We will look for another similar graded race," he said.
"The aim has been to get black type and she has achieved that now."
