Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Damien Oliver will miss the Australian Guineas meeting at Flemington next Saturday after being suspended over his winning ride on Fiorente at Caulfield.
Stewards suspended Oliver for 10 meetings for careless riding that caused Green Moon to be checked in the final 20 metres of the Peter Young Stakes.
Oliver admitted he had allowed Fiorente to shift to the left and crowd Green Moon, but told the stewards he was a no-win situation.
"I'm riding a short-priced favourite ... if I sit up and stop riding it doesn't look too good for me," Oliver said.
Fiorente won the race by a short head from Mourayan.
Oliver maintained most of the interference occurred after the finishing post and that the third placegetter, Star Rolling had contributed to it.
But the stewards rejected the contention Star Rolling and its rider Brad Rawiller had any culpability.
They also told Oliver it made no difference if the interference occurred before or after the post.
"The ground is just as hard past the post," said chief steward Terry Bailey.
"Winning doesn't supersede the safety factor."
Oliver has the ride on the well-fancied Bull Point in the Guineas for trainer Gai Waterhouse.
