Tasmania's best two-year-old Admiral capped his preparation with victory in Wednesday's Listed Gold Sovereign Stakes at Launceston.
The Barry Campbell-trained Admiral made it four wins from five starts as he came down the outside after settling worse than midfield to win the $100,000 event over 1200m.
"He should be unbeaten. He's a serious horse," Campbell said.
"I just knew that if he went like he worked and ran up to his ability he would win."
Campbell said the gelding by Mossman had earned a spell.
The two-year-old is part-owned by Denise Martin of Star Thoroughbreds fame.
Martin is Campbell's sister-in-law and told the horse's breeder and family friend Bruno Calabro that she wanted to be involved in the horse.
"He's a very good horse in the making," Martin said.
Admiral, the $2.90 favourite, defeated Geegees Doublejay by a half length with Toothless 2-3/4 lengths away third.
The win of Admiral was the first of a race-to-race Listed double for jockey Brendon McCoull who also parterned Iggimacool ($4.30) to a 3-3/4 length victory in the Tasmanian Oaks (2100m).
Iggimacool had won the Tasmanian Thousand Guineas two starts back and was second in the Listed Strutt Stakes last start.
Trainer Bill Ryan said he would consider a trip to Adelaide.
The Group Three South Australian Fillies Classic (2500m) is in May.
"We might put her in the paddock or we might look at South Australia," Ryan said.
Ryan, who trains at Longford, was confident the filly would win on Wednesday.
"She vindicated what we thought about her all the way through," Ryan said.
"We were a bit unlucky in the Strutt Stakes and it would have been nice to get the triple crown but we didn't and that's racing. We got the main one today."
