Well-travelled stayer wins at Eagle Farm

Saturday 1 March 2014, 3:03pm

Improving stayer Storm Fabulador covered a lot of ground before scoring his first metropolitan win at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Storm Fabulador ($21) won a slogging battle beating Caballo Rapido ($7) by a half neck with 1-1/4 lengths to favourite Senta Desert ($2.80) in the Tattersall's Club Handicap (2200m).

Now trained by John Everson at Ballina, Storm Fabulador was foaled in Argentina before being sold to Brisbane bloodstock agent John Foote.

"He was then broken in in California before spelling in New Zealand and then being sent to Peter Moody in Melbourne," Everson said.

"Peter had him for a while and didn't think he would make it so he sent him to me."

Everson said Storm Fabulador had been most consistent but he had been worried about him running a strong 2200m in open company.

"But he was fit and I think that was the difference today," Everson said.

Meanwhile, tough colt I Am Boss overcame a home-turn incident to remain on course for a hefty payday with a win in the Breakfast Creek Hotel Handicap.

Starting favourite, I Am Boss ($2.30) was run off the track by joint leader Knightwick Manor ($61) and had a bumping duel with Craiglea Mission as the field made the home turn.

Jockey Tim Bell was able to keep I Am Boss balanced and he went on to beat Knightwick Manor by a half neck.

Trainer Tony Sears said I Am Boss would have his final run for this campaign in a $100,000 Gold Coast race on March 15.

Sears has trained three horses out of the mare Spirit of Denmark - Boss Bart, Boss Burr and now I Am Boss.
