Talented Mouro started his campaign aimed at the $3 million Doncaster Mile on the right note with a strong win at Flemington on Saturday.
Trainer Tony McEvoy is aiming Mouro at the Doncaster at Randwick in April and the import moved to $15 for the race after his long neck win in the Group Three TAB Rewards Stakes (1400m).
Mouro ($5) finished his spring campaign with victories in the Sale Cup and the Group Three Eclipse Stakes (1800m) and showed he was on target to go to another level this time in with his first-up win.
Craig Williams settled midfield on Mouro, who carried topweight of 58.5kg, and angled him into the clear from the top of the straight.
He hit the front at the 200m as leader Strawberry Boy started to feel the pinch and was strong enough to hold off Mourinho ($101) who powered home.
Fat Al ($26) came in another three-quarters of a length away in third.
Mouro will head to Sydney on Sunday night in preparation for his autumn targets.
"We'll try to get him in (to the Doncaster)," McEvoy's foreman Jason Robinson said.
"It's a big handicap and he should get in with a reasonably low weight. He might sneak in there really well.
"I think he presented fantastic today, but there's more to come.
"The tempo of a Doncaster would suit him so he's definitely got to figure in the mix."
