Field of 15 sprinters for G1 Newmarket Hcp

Wednesday 5 March 2014, 12:19pm

A less-than-capacity field of 15 has been declared for Saturday's Group One Newmarket Handicap at Flemington.

Last year's winner Shamexpress, who is out to become the fifth horse to win back-to-back Newmarkets, will start from an inside draw in barrier three while the 2013 runner-up Moment Of Change has barrier seven.

Trainer Mick Price has the two favourites in Samaready and Lankan Rupee and they will jump from barriers nine and 13 respectively in the straight-track sprint.

Connections of three-year-old Bernabeu have elected to run the gelding in the Newmarket after a pleasing jump-out on Tuesday and he has drawn barrier six with Glen Boss secured for the ride at 50kg.

Peter Snowden has two runners with Oakleigh Plate placegetter Knoydart, a late entry, drawing barrier four.

The Anthony Cummings-trained Fontelina, a two-time winner of the Group Two Yellowglen Stakes over the course and distance, has the inside gate while the David Hayes-trained Pago Rock has drawn the outside barrier.
