Moon's class can show in Blamey: Arnold

Thursday 6 March 2014, 5:45pm

Jockey Steven Arnold expects the class of Sea Moon to take him a long way in his return race at Flemington.

Sea Moon resumes in Saturday's Group Two Blamey Stakes (1600m) for his first start since a midfield finish in the Melbourne Cup.

Stewards have been advised of a change in tactics with the import to race in a forward position.

"He's a class horse," Arnold said.

"I've been doing a little bit of work on him and he seems in great order so in a race like that you could see him running really well."

Under the conditions of the Blamey, Sea Moon carries equal topweight of 59kg with Group Two Zipping Classic winner Sertorius.

"He's probably pretty well in at the weights and I'm looking for a good run from him," Arnold said.

Sea Moon's stablemate Foundry, a winner over 1400m at Flemington in his Australian debut last month, is also set to figure in a tactics change with the intention for him to race forward as well.

Sea Moon arrived in Australia with a strong international rating after winning the Group Two Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2012.

His five-start spring campaign netted a Group Two Herbert Power Stakes win (2400m), while he lost another race on protest.

Sea Moon is on the fourth line of betting at $7 for the Blamey, a race won first-up by his Macedon Lodge stablemate Green Moon two years ago.
