The Coolmore Classic credentials of A Time For Julia have been boosted by her victory in the Wenona Girl Handicap at Randwick, renamed to pay tribute to champion jockey Roy Higgins.
Trainer Peter Moody used Saturday's Group Three 1200m sprint as a lead-up to her mission in next week's 1500m Group One for mares and was more than happy with the result.
"She had a good gallop on Tuesday with the 1500-metre race in 12 days in mind not a 1200-metre race in four days," Moody said.
"I knew she would close the race off but I was mindful of the Coolmore."
Sent out the $3 favourite, A Time For Julia came out of the pack and chased down Lilliburlero ($4.40) to beat her by a short neck.
If A Time For Julia fails to run out the 1500 metres in the manner Moody expects, his back-up plan is the Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide in May.
"We've got that in our minds as well," he said.
"The Coolmore will be a tough race with a lot of good mares and we also have the Adelaide option."
