Silent Achiever to take on Fiorente

Monday 17 March 2014, 5:03pm

Injury robbed Silent Achiever of the chance to run in the Melbourne Cup but the New Zealand mare will be able to test herself against the winner in the Ranvet Stakes.

She and Fiorente are among 13 entries for Saturday's 2000m weight-for-age feature at Rosehill with both going into the race off Group One wins.

It's A Dundeel tackles the Ranvet after his second in the Chipping Norton Stakes, his first start since the Cox Plate.

Trainer Roger James said Silent Achiever would be flown to Sydney on Wednesday night having shown she had completely recovered from the injuries received in last year's Caulfield Cup in which she finished eighth.

"She needed stitches after she was galloped on in the Caulfield Cup but has impressive in her two starts back," James said.

"I'm very happy with her although it will be a competitive race.

"She has the blinkers on now. She was good without them but they have helped her even more."

Nash Rawiller has been booked for the Ranvet ride.

Silent Achiever returned with a 1500m win at Ellerslie carrying 60kg on February 15 then claimed the New Zealand Stakes (2000m) last Saturday week.

Fiorente's two starts since the Melbourne Cup have brought wins in the Group Two Peter Young (1800m) and the Australian Cup (2000m) on March 8.

The Ranvet will be only the second time the Gai Waterhouse-trained Fiorente has raced in Sydney since he arrived in Australia from England in the spring of 2012.

He was an eye-catching third in the All-Aged Stakes won by All Too Hard at Randwick in April last year but all his other starts have been in Melbourne.

Last year's Ranvet winner Foreteller, a close third in the Australian Cup, is one of four Chris Waller-trained entries this year.
