Vasil to plead guilty at RAD Board hearing

Tuesday 18 March 2014, 5:37pm

Trainer Tony Vasil will not attend a Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board hearing on Thursday but will plead guilty to a charge stemming from an altercation with a stablehand in January.

Vasil is undergoing continued treatment for depression and his legal counsel advised Racing Victoria it would enter a guilty plea on his behalf to a charge of engaging in improper conduct or unseemly behaviour after an incident that involved an employee of leading trainer Peter Moody.

The pair allegedly clashed near a swimming pool at Caulfield on January 31. Vasil later apologised privately and publicly to the other man involved.

Vasil is not expected to return to training in the short term with most of his team transferring to the care of his fellow Aquanita Racing trainer Robert Smerdon in late March or early April.
