Tony Vasil fined over poolside scuffle

Thursday 20 March 2014, 1:54pm

Trainer Tony Vasil has been fined $500 for his part in a physical altercation with a stablehand in January.

Vasil is receiving treatment for depression at an interstate facility and did not attend the Racing and Disciplinary (RAD) Board hearing on Thursday.

He pleaded guilty via his legal counsel to a misconduct charge arising from his confrontation with a member of Peter Moody's staff near the swimming pool at Caulfield on January 31.

The RAD Board did not record a conviction.

Vasil has indicated he will transfer his team to fellow Aquanita Racing trainer Robert Smerdon by early April as he looks to take a break from racing.
