Bachman adds to Ryan's juvenile haul

Thursday 20 March 2014, 3:23pm

Bachman has earned a place on Gerald Ryan's two-year-old autumn carnival team after an impressive win at Warwick Farm.

Giving the Rosehill trainer his ninth individual two-year-old winner of the season, Bachman capitalised on an inside run to beat Double Happy in Thursday's TAB iPad App Handicap (1300m).

The colt tracked four lengths off the leaders before surging to the front in the straight.

Representing his father, Blake Ryan said Bachman was in contention for a start in the Group One Champagne Stakes at the end of the Sydney carnival.

He will have his next start in The Schweppervescence (1400m) at Rosehill on Golden Slipper day to determine if he can measure up to the final leg of the two-year-old triple crown

"He's surprised us a little bit with the speed he's shown at his first two starts," Blake Ryan said.

"We've always had a lot of time for him."

The Warwick Farm victory was Bachman's first in three starts and followed a solid third at Canterbury earlier this month and a debut fourth to Fighting Sun at Rosehill in February.

Jockey Nash Rawiller said the youngster showed a good will to win.

Favourite Double Happy finished 1-1/2 lengths away in second after racing greenly in the straight with Sure And Fast another 1-1/4 lengths away third.

Meanwhile, John O'Shea had a welcome change of fortune when Dublin Lass claimed a dominant win in the first race just hours after Coolmore Classic contender White Sage broke down during trackwork.

Dublin Lass led and extended her advantage around the home turn to score by three lengths over Canossa who did a good job to finish second after striking early interference.

Jockey James McDonald said the filly wanted to race too keenly at the start but eventually settled into a good rhythm.
