Suspension to cost Cassidy Slipper ride

Thursday 20 March 2014, 5:56pm

Veteran jockey Jim Cassidy has been handed his second suspension in 24 hours, costing him the chance to ride in this year's Golden Slipper.

Warwick Farm stewards outed Cassidy for three meetings on Thursday, a ban which comes on top of a four-meeting suspension out of Wednesday's Newcastle Newmarket fixture.

Cassidy was found guilty of careless riding on runner-up Double Happy after the two-year-old drifted off course in the run home in the TAB iPad App Handicap.

Because of NSW's nine-day engagement rule, Cassidy will be able ride at the Rosehill Guineas meeting on Saturday week when he will be aboard one of the favourites, Dissident, in the feature race.

He will start the suspension on March 30 and can resume riding on April 6 - a day after the Golden Slipper.

Cassidy posted his 101st Group One win when he rode Dissident to victory in last week's Randwick Guineas and he will ride Steps In Time (Coolmore Classic) and Hawkspur (Ranvet Stakes) as he tries to add to that tally at Rosehill on Saturday.

He will also partner the Blue Diamond Stakes placegetter Cornrow in the Todman Stakes - one of the few remaining Golden Slipper lead-up races.
