Appearance fit, healthy for Ryder: Walter

Sunday 23 March 2014, 5:28pm

Appearance has come through one fast gallop without concern and is ready for another going into the Group One George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

Always closely monitored by trainer Guy Walter because of a muscular disorder, Appearance worked strongly on Thursday in readiness to add the George Ryder to her Group One Canterbury Stakes win.

"She did a bit of work on her own on Thursday and she'll have another proper gallop again on Tuesday," Walter said.

Appearance missed the Chipping Norton Stakes because of her muscle issue but it made no difference in the Canterbury Stakes as she confirmed her status as one of Australia's best mares.

Walter has also confirmed George Ryder starts for Toydini and Streama after they lost little from an autumn point of view when fifth and sixth respectively in the Canterbury Stakes.

The Chris Waller-trained Boban won the Chipping Norton after finishing behind Appearance in both the Group Two Expressway Stakes and Apollo Stakes.

He is one of several George Ryder runners for Waller who has won the race three times with Danleigh (2010), Rangirangdoo (2011) and Metal Bender (2012).

Among his runners is last year's Doncaster Mile winner Sacred Falls who will be ridden by Hong Kong-based Zac Purton who hasn't ridden in Australia for some years.

His father-in-law Jim Cassidy will be on three-year-old Eurozone for Bart and James Cummings.

Anthony Cummings will nominate Fontelina who was edged out of a Group One win for the second time when runner-up to Spirit Of Boom in Friday night's William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Last spring, Fontelina was nosed out of victory in the Rupert Clarke Stakes by Rebel Dane.

Victorian Speediness, second in the Apollo, will wear a tongue tie in the George Ryder after choking down when seventh in the Canterbury Stakes.
