Double strike for Hayes at Mornington

Wednesday 26 March 2014, 4:09pm

Siblings to top gallopers gave trainer David Hayes an early Mornington double on Wednesday.

Group One winner Aqua D'Amore's three-quarter brother Petrology started the day well for Hayes when he claimed the A Positive Move Handicap.

A son of Fastnet Rock, Petrology fetched $200,000 as a yearling.

Hayes's representative Bruno Rouge-Serret said the trainer would give Petrology a chance in stakes company in either Sydney or Adelaide despite the colt working hard to beat Alaska by a neck.

"David will find some nice races for him over 1400 metres or further," Rouge-Serret said.

"Once he gets to a mile (1600m), he'll be better."

Craig Williams was aboard Girl Guide for Hayes in the Orbit Fitness Handicap.

Girl Guide, the $1.85 favourite, went down narrowly at Moonee Valley at her previous start but atoned with a comfortable win.

The filly is a three-quarter sister to Group Two winner Gregers.

Rouge-Serret said Girl Guide would attempt to join Gregers as a black-type winner in the coming weeks.

"We might try and avoid the hot stuff in Sydney and pick up some nice races in Adelaide," he said.

Hayes's main focus on Saturday will be at Rosehill where two-year-olds Wilderness and Clifton Red will run in the Pago Pago Stakes and Magic Night Stakes respectively.

Hayes will also start Fast `N' Rocking in the Darby Munro Stakes (1200m).
