Kevin Moses hopes one of the horses in his small Randwick team can be an ATC Australian Derby contender.
Singing Flame redeemed himself with a second win at Randwick having been outclassed in Group One company earlier in the month.
By Song Of Tara, a sire noted for producing mudlarks, the colt made light work of the wet track at the mid-week meeting to claim the TAB Quaddie Handicap (1800m) on Wednesday.
Moses said the good result would help him secure the well-built three-year-old a start in the Australian Derby.
"I'm going to try to tell the owners he's won enough money to go to the Derby," he said.
"Might be a bit hard, but I'd like to."
Either way, Moses said Singing Flame's next start would be the Tulloch Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on April 5.
His performance in that will dictate whether he presses on to the Derby a week later.
The three-year-old raced ungenerously in the early stages but jockey Tim Clark said he didn't want to fight against the hulking colt.
"He's a big strong horse," he said.
Shikra also looks likely to make a Derby bid via the Tulloch Stakes after winning the Drummond Golf Handicap.
Trainer Peter Snowden said Shikra had matured since early in the season when he campaigned at stakes level without success.
