Home choice the tough option for Griffiths

Friday 28 March 2014, 3:37pm

Robbie Griffiths fears he may have made a wrong turn by keeping Prettyhappyaboutit in Melbourne on Saturday.

Griffiths also nominated Prettyhappyaboutit for a Listed race in Adelaide but decided to run the mare in what he thought would be an easier option at Moonee Valley.

However, the quality of the field shocked Griffiths when he looked over the acceptances for her 1000-metre assignment.

Prettyhappyaboutit was one of nine acceptors for the $80,000 race but the four-year-old will be up against stakes winners Shamal Wind, Elite Elle and Octavia.

The withdrawal of Angels Beach has made Prettyhappyaboutit's task slightly easier but Griffiths noted the other three sprinters would be on trial for the Group One Sportingbet Classic (1200m) in Adelaide.

"I was definitely going to Adelaide but I looked at the race and I thought it looked pretty strong so I thought I would stay at home," Griffiths said.

"But then the top four at Moonee Valley are Group or black type winners so it's a crackerjack race."

Prettyhappyaboutit is a $14 chance in early betting but Griffiths remained positive the four-year-old could trouble the favoured trio.

"She has finally drawn well in barrier four and her chances depended on the draw because she's an on-pace runner," Griffiths said.

Prettyhappyaboutit is a Listed winner herself but Griffiths says he has lower expectations than the Sportingbet Classic for his charge.

Ryan Maloney will be aboard Prettyhappyaboutit for the first time on Saturday.
