Tegan Harrison outrides metrop allowance

Saturday 29 March 2014, 5:18pm

Apprentice Tegan Harrison wrote her name into the record books as a genuine winter carnival hopeful was uncovered when Rudy won at Doomben on Saturday.

Rudy ($6) defied the track bias when he travelled wide before storming home to beat In The Skyrocket ($8) by 1-1/2 lengths in the Alfred and Constance Handicap.

It was Harrison's 80th metropolitan win which means she has outridden her city allowance with two months left in her apprenticeship.

Kathy O'Hara (Sydney), Alana Sansom (Perth), Lacey Morrison (Brisbane) and Michelle Payne (Melbourne) are female jockeys who have outridden their allowances when the limit was 60 winners.

"It is every apprentice's dream to outride their allowance," Harrison said.

Rudy, who is raced by the Clarke brothers, Tom, Don and David from Chinchilla in western Queensland, is being set for the Queensland Derby.

"He'll have his next start in a set weights three-year-old Plate in a fortnight and we will go from there," trainer Helen Page said.

Jockey Larry Cassidy had call on his wife Michelle for help before he rode Gallinari ($11) to win the Student Flights Handicap (1350m).

Cassidy, who only returned from a hernia operation two weeks ago, was stood from riding on Wednesday but was declared fit to ride on Saturday.

"I was in the sauna this morning to get the last half kilogram off but my body just wouldn't sweat any more."

"My wife came in and was rubbing my back to get me to sweat that last little bit. It might sound romantic but it wasn't."

Meanwhile, apprentice Ruby Ride continued her great association with Kiss Me Deadly ($7.50) who won the RML Handicap (1615m).

Kiss Me Deadly was originally trained by Rex Lipp but has won her past two starts for Toowoomba trainer Matt Kropp and Ride.
