Sistine Demon returns for Brisbane bid

Sunday 30 March 2014, 4:34pm

A surprise phone call could be the catalyst for Sistine Demon to be a Brisbane winter carnival contender.

Sistine Demon went from a benchmark 64 win at Donald to a Listed victory at Flemington in a profitable summer/autumn campaign.

After winning at Donald, Sistine Demon won another five races and was a close second in the Kilmore Cup.

Trainer Andrew Noblet sent Sistine Demon to a spelling property after his last-start win on March 8 but the gelding made an early return to his Caulfield stable last Tuesday.

"I got a call from Fulmen Park telling me he was bright as a button and I should do something with him before he hurt himself," Noblet said.

Noblet has set his sights on the Group Three Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield on April 19.

Noblet said the son of Excites could earn a trip to the Queensland winter carnival with a strong performance.

"If he runs well and pulls up well, we'll have the option of taking him to Brisbane for the right race," Noblet said.

"We could also give him a decent spell after Caulfield before the spring."

Sistine Demon's deeds have helped Noblet to a 36 per cent winning strike rate on city tracks in the 2013/14 season.
