Multiple stakes winner Second Effort has been euthanised after breaking a leg in trackwork.
The Clinton McDonald-trained sprinter made his mark with wins including the 2012 Group Two Two P B Lawrence Stakes and last year's Group Three Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield.
"Sad news Second Effort had to be put down this morning after breaking a hind leg on Saturday morning," a tweet from McDonald Racing said.
The tough gelding will also be remembered for his deeds at Warrnambool where he won a race at the famous three-day country racing carnival in four consecutive years.
He won his maiden in May 2010 and a year later claimed a benchmark race.
In 2012 he took out the Listed Wangoom Handicap and returned last year to make it back-to-back wins in the feature sprint.
A son of Mossman, Second Effort won 11 of his 36 starts and $680,000 prize money.
