London Lolly will not be a runner in the Golden Slipper opening the door for Modoc to gain a start in Saturday's $3.5 million race.

Hawkes Racing announced on Monday that London Lolly would not be asked to back up seven days after her stakes win in Adelaide, leaving Modoc to take the final spot in the 16-horse field.

Modoc's trainer Paul Perry welcomed the news he would have his first Slipper starter since he sent Stratum out in the same colours of the Wallace family to win the race nine years ago.

The gelding has followed a similar path to Stratum in the lead-up races, but unlike Stratum who went to the Slipper on the back of Pago Pago Stakes win, Modoc had a chequered passage in the same race on Saturday and finished fourth.

"I thought it was a good run," Perry said.

"He went on a couple of different paths and perhaps should have been a bit closer to the winner.

"But Blake (Shinn) said he handled the wet track a lot better than he did in the Silver Slipper so that was encouraging.

"We will pay up and Blake will ride again.

"I don't think I've had a Slipper runner since Stratum so it's good to be in the race again."

The Peter Snowden-trained Earthquake is the dominant $2 favourite to stretch her unbeaten record to five and add the Slipper to Victoria's premier two-year-old race, the $1 million Group One Blue Diamond Stakes.

Her stablemates Ghibellines and Memorial make up the trio for Sheikh Mohammed's Darley Australia which won the 2011 Slipper with Sepoy.

Second favourite Mossfun will be the Hawkes team's sole runner. The filly's only defeat from four starts came in the Reisling Stakes when she ran second to Earthquake.

But with rain later in the week and Mossfun's record of two wins from two starts on slow ground, the filly is likely to firm from her $8 quote.

The Peter Moody-trained Bring Me The Maid, winner of Saturday's Magic Night Stakes on a heavy track, will also come into calculations.

The all-important barrier draw will be held in Sydney's Martin Place on Tuesday.
