Peter Snowden narrowly missed out on Group One success in Perth a year ago and will be out to set that right with Pinwheel to head a small Darley team in the west later this month.

Darley's head trainer is preparing to take Pinwheel, Academus and Galah to Western Australia to compete in feature races on Perth's Super Saturday program on November 24 at Ascot.

Pinwheel is being set for the $500,000 Group One Winterbottom Stakes (1200m), a race stablemate Rarefied finished second in last year to subsequent global star Ortensia.

Galah is in line for a shot at the $1 million Group One Railway Stakes (1600m) while three-year-old Academus is headed to the Group Two WA Guineas (1600m).

Snowden's Sydney stable foreman Brad Widdup said Pinwheel was in good shape ahead of his West Australian mission.

The veteran sprinter had an easy barrier trial at Rosehill last Wednesday to keep him ticking over ahead of the trip.

"He's doing well and we just hope to get him over there in one piece and have another crack at getting a Group One with him," Widdup said.

"He deserves to win one but he's probably running out of chances."

A $1 million earner, Pinwheel is a multiple Group-winning galloper but hasn't been able to break through at the highest level with his closest Group One result a third in last year's Goodwood in Adelaide.

WA is the only state in Australia that hosts Group One racing where Snowden has yet to win a major race.

Galah finished a close second in a 1600m race at Flemington on Saturday while Academus was fourth in a Listed 1400m event carrying 60kg.

"Academus raced OK and carried a bit of weight," Widdup said.

"He got a bit lost in his first start that way of going but the experience would have done him the world of good.

"He's still raw but is a horse with a lot of ability. As long as he comes through the race well he'll be going over for the Guineas.

"It's a $350,000 race."

Group One racing in the eastern states wound up for 2012 with the running of the Patinack Farm Classic won by the Snowden-trained Mental, and the Emirates Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

Group One attention now shifts to Perth with the Winterbottom and Railway, followed by the Kingston Town Classic on December 8.
