Damian Lane seizes Sydney opportunity

Thursday 3 April 2014, 1:13pm

Jockey Damian Lane is determined to use a setback as motivation when he rides You're So Good in Saturday's Group Two Emancipation Stakes at Rosehill.

Lane was set to partner leading fancy Solicit in the Group One Vinery Stud Stakes but lost the mount to Cox Plate-winning rider Chad Schofield.

Owner David Moodie's decision left You're So Good as Lane's only ride on Golden Slipper day.

However, Lane welcomed his sole opportunity to impress as he bids to become a noted big-race rider.

"It's a shame losing the ride on Solicit but I just copped it on the chin and kept moving forward," Lane said.

"At the end of the day, I want to be a carnival jockey and chase the good rides."

Lane has a good record on You're So Good, including a victory on debut when she raced near the speed.

But he says the mare's racing pattern has changed markedly since then.

"These days she doesn't have that early speed and if you do use her early she gets over-racing," he said.

"Hopefully there's some good speed and she can switch off a bit."

You're So Good will be Lane's first race ride in Sydney.

However, the Perth-born hoop conducted a reconnaissance mission to Rosehill where he rode work for trainer David Payne two weeks ago.

Bookmakers have posted You're So Good at $13 for the Emancipation with the Chris Waller-trained Catkins an odds-on favourite.
