Waller's Prince wins again at Flemington

Saturday 5 April 2014, 5:38pm

Import Our Voodoo Prince is set to see more of Australia after dominating his opposition at Flemington on Saturday.

Our Voodoo Prince, the $4 favourite, maintained his unbeaten record for trainer Chris Waller when he circled his rivals to win the Community Raceday Handicap (2000m).

Jockey James Winks was also aboard Our Voodoo Prince at his Australian debut win at Sandown but was amazed with the six-year-old's acceleration in his latest outing.

"I didn't want to label him after Sandown but what he did today - wowee," Winks said.

"I didn't even get to the bottom of him."

Waller's Melbourne representative Justine Hales said the Sydney trainer was likely to race the gelding in Group races during the Brisbane winter carnival.

"Chris is always looking at going to Brisbane with these horses," Hales said.

Imported gallopers also filled the minor placings with Akzar ($4.40) finishing second ahead of the Waller-trained Trade Commissioner ($8).

Meanwhile, Shamal Wind showed she was on track for the Group One Sportingbet Classic in Adelaide with her Braybrook Handicap (1000m) win.

Shamal Wind ran ninth in the Sportingbet Classic last year but trainer Robert Smerdon will have three weeks to prepare the mare for her April 26 assignment at Morphettville.

The four-year-old ran a fast final 600m as she came from last under apprentice Josh Cartwright's cool ride to score by two lengths.

Smerdon praised Cartwright's professionalism and mature handling of Shamal Wind.

"Josh is on the rise," Smerdon said.

"He does his homework, thinks about things and he's quite composed.

"With the wet tracks coming up, I'll be using Josh as much as I can."

Jockeys at Flemington wore blue armbands as a sign of respect to Sydney rider Nathan Berry who died on Thursday, aged 23.
