Three-year-old Nicamorae has backed up a maiden win at Wangaratta with a convincing city victory at a track where two of her relatives have achieved Group One success.

Nicamorae is out of the mare Nicola Lass whose progeny includes Niconero and Nicconi.

Niconero won five Group One races during his career including the 2009 Australian Cup at Flemington while sprinter Nicconi was counts the 2010 Lightning Stakes as one of his two Group One victories.

Nicamorae broke through at her fourth start with a first-up win at Wangaratta earlier this month before stepping out in Friday's Long Tan Handicap (1000m).

The filly by More Than Ready defied her price of $20, sprinting quickly when asked for an effort from Jake Noonan to put 2-1/4 lengths on her rivals.

Sentfromthestars finished well for second with A Littlebitofclass another 1-1/4 lengths away third.

"She's a filly on the way up," Noonan said.

"She has improved off a maiden win at Wangaratta and came into a pretty handy three-year-old race today and to see her win like that shows she's got a bright future."

Noonan has been riding work a couple of days a week for Hayes and is keen to make the most of his opportunities with the prominent trainer.
