Lightly raced mare Girl Guide has continued her rise through the grades with another win at Sandown at a meeting where apprentice Jye McNeil stole the limelight with his first city treble.

Trained by David Hayes-trained Girl Guide, who gave 19-year-old McNeil the second of his three wins, took her record to four wins and a close second from five starts with a fighting victory on Saturday.

The win is likely to clinch the four-year-old her first shot at stakes company in Adelaide next start.

Girl Guide is an older half-sister to the three-year-old Gregers.

The siblings were chasing a two-state double with Gregers in the Group One Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide but the classy filly was forced to settle for third behind Driefontein and Platelet.

Girl Guide firmed from $2.60 to $2.35 but the favourite was forced to dig deep to make it three-straight wins, fending off the challenge from Awasita to score by a short head with three-quarters of a length to Scatcat in third.

"She's all heart and she's got that bit of class," stable representative Bruno Rouge-Serret said.

Girl Guide broke her wither as a young horse which meant she did not make her debut until earlier this season.

McNeil had earlier won on three-year-old filly Khutulun and brought up his treble on the Robbie Griffiths-trained Horacio in the Perri Cutten Handicap.

He described his first city treble as a dream come true, and his third victory had added significance as it was the apprentice's 20th metropolitan winner which reduces his city claim from 3kg to 2kg.

"I was confident they could all run good races today, but it's caught me by surprise a bit," McNeil said of his winning haul.

Fellow apprentice Katelyn Mallyon also brought up a milestone with her 50th metropolitan win of her career on the John McArdle-trained Legcut in the Hyland Race Colours Handicap which reduces her city claim from 2kg to 1.5kg.

The day wasn't as bright for in-form apprentice Harry Coffey who was suspended for nine meetings for careless riding aboard Mr Backchat in the New Zealand Bloodstock Handicap while senior hoop Daniel Moor copped an eight-meeting careless riding ban in the same race aboard Wildebeast.
