Rosella sets class record in Brisbane win

Wednesday 30 April 2014, 1:51pm

Caloundra trainer Troy Hall vowed not to push two-year-old filly Rosella too hard despite her record-breaking win at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.

Sent out favourite, Rosella ($2.30) lived up to her impressive trial two weeks ago when she won the Drumbeats @ Lyndhurst Maiden.

She posted 1min11.2secs for the 1200m, a class record.

Hall said he had a huge opinion of Rosella who is raced by his long-time client Fred Brown.

"Fred bred her but she had an eye injury before the yearling sales and she never went through the ring. We got her but I did buy her full-sister at the sales this year."

Hall said he would not be pushing Rosella too hard through the winter.

Trainer Toby Edmonds continued his long association with breeder Stuart Ramsay when blue blood Granados won the Gallopers Handicap (2200m).

Granados, who is by star sire Encosta de Lago out of the Danehill mare Larrocha, will be set for the Group One Queensland Oaks (2400m) on May 31.

"I know it is a big step up but she is bred to run a strong 2400 metres and you have to be in it to win it," Edmonds said.
