Trainer Matt Dunn has put a failed Gosford experiment with Londehero behind him and is excited about the three-year-old's upcoming Brisbane campaign.
Londehero will be having his first start in a month when he runs in the Group Three Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) on Saturday on the way to a possible tilt at weight-for-age sprints.
Dunn, who trains at Murwillumbah in northern NSW, took Londehero south for the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m) on April 6 hoping to get a line on how he rated against some of the better three-year-olds.
The exercise was a disaster with Londehero 10th behind In Cahoots, beaten 17 lengths on a track which was the heaviest it could be after continuous rain.
"We took him down there because we wanted to put him up against some of the better southern horses to get a line on him for the winter," Dunn said.
"As it turned out that was a waste of time. I wouldn't have run him except the owners had driven down to watch him and we really had to run."
The trainer said Londehero had recovered well from the trip.
"I was really happy with his work on Tuesday," he said.
"It was probably the best he has ever worked."
Dunn will wait until after Saturday's race before he decides which direction to take with Londehero.
The trainer has a such a high opinion of the gelding he has nominated him for the Group One treble of the BTC Cup (1200m), Doomben 10,000 (1350m) and Stradbroke Handicap (1400m).
If Londehero does not measure up to those lofty heights he will probably chase the Group Two Queensland Guineas (1400m) on May 31.
