Pressing set for smooth trip to Brisbane

Wednesday 7 May 2014, 3:46pm

Caulfield trainer Mick Price will spare unbeaten colt Pressing an arduous float trip to Brisbane and instead fly him north to tackle next month's Group One J J Atkins.

Pressing will travel with Group Three winner Jazz Song on a flight that will depart at midnight on Tuesday.

The trainer has his sights on the Group Two BRC Sires' Produce Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on May 24 ahead of the J J Atkins (1600m) at Eagle Farm on June 7.

But Pressing must first please Price with his attitude once he gets to Brisbane to warrant the trainer continuing his campaign.

"Sometimes you take them away and they thrive and sometimes you take them away and they stress and go backwards," Price said.

"If he doesn't thrive, I will spell him."

Pressing rocketed into contention for the Brisbane two-year-old features when he came from near-last to score two eye-catching wins on his home track in Melbourne.

Price said the Sebring colt shocked him after showing little in track gallops over shorter trips before improving rapidly on race day.

"Shorter distances just don't suit him," Price said.

"He makes his own mind up when he goes, but when he does get going he's got a good finish."

Price said Jazz Song would run in the Group Three Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on May 24.
