Commanding Jewel has taken a significant step towards a Group One winter carnival cameo by winning a jump-out at Seymour on Friday.
The Leon Corstens-trained winner of the 2012 Thousand Guineas has not started since her Group Two Let's Elope Stakes win at Flemington in September.
"She pleased me in her trial so that's the first box ticked," Corstens said.
The trainer hopes to get the three-quarter sister to Atlantic Jewel to the $500,000 Tattersall's Tiara (1400m) in Brisbane on June 21.
Injuries have restricted Commanding Jewel to seven starts which have realised four wins and she is on the comeback trail from after hurting her foot in a paddock accident.
"We had her out spelling and she got her foot caught and she ripped away quite a bit of foot. It has taken forever and a day to heal," Corstens said.
"We think we've got her there. We'll see how she pulls up tomorrow and go from there."
Commanding Jewel is nominated for the $1 million Stradbroke Handicap but Corstens expects the June 7 race at Eagle Farm to come around too soon.
"We're hoping to maybe get to Queensland for the Tiara. It would be nice if we could do that," Corstens said.
Corstens is hoping champion jockey Damien Oliver, who has ridden Commanding Jewel in four of her starts, will be available to ride the mare in her next trial to give the trainer a guide on her progress.
Atlantic Jewel was retired last spring due to injury and the four-time Group One winner left the track with 10 wins from 11 starts.
