Bomber Brown has given his sire his first metropolitan Australian winner and stamped himself as a stayer of the future with victory at Rosehill.
The David Payne-trained two-year-old son of 2008 Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown handled the 1800 metres of the Juvenile Stayers race with ease.
Backed from $4.40 to share favouritism with Proxy at $3.50, Bomber Brown led all the way under Jeff Lloyd to beat Standoubt by 3-1/2 lengths.
Payne has been a supporter of the initiative to run distance races for juveniles over the past few years.
"We aimed him at this race months ago," Payne said.
"His father won a Derby and he is bred to run over ground.
"He is still a bit dumb but if there is another of these races coming up we will run him there.
"He is the only one by Big Brown that I've got and he needed to get up to this distance to do his best."
Big Brown's first Australian winner was Lady Concord who opened her sire's account with a 1000-metre victory at Moe on Anzac Day.
Bomber Brown had had five starts up to 1400m before his win on Saturday, failing to register a place.
Lloyd said the distance was the key.
"Over shorter trips he doesn't give you much of a feel at all," he said.
"But over this distance he got into a nice rhythm."
The Payne-trained Honorius won the equivalent race in 2012 and went on to finish eighth in the Victoria Derby behind Fiveandahalfstar who had run third in the Rosehill race.
