A track gallop on Tuesday left trainer Mick Price second-guessing himself before the Caulfield horseman produced an early two-state juvenile double.
Price worked Moonovermanhattan with Seenaan with the latter getting the better of the hit-out with Damien Oliver aboard.
But Price decided to send Moonovermanhattan to Adelaide to contest the Group Three National Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville while Seenaan remained in Melbourne to run in the opening heat of the Taj Rossi Series (1100m) at Flemington.
"Seenaan finished about three lengths in front of the other one so I wondered if I was taking the right horse to Adelaide," Price said.
However, Moonovermanhattan scored a strong debut win 10 minutes before Seenaan completed a Price-trained double in Melbourne.
Jockey Daniel Moor guided Seenaan through traffic from a midfield position to score by a long neck over Al's Kitchen for co-trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra.
Ellerton and Zahra also provided the runner-up in the National Stakes after Moonovermanhattan beat Not A Happy Camper by a head.
"Mick is always very hard to beat but that's the third time he's beaten us in a city race this week after Pin Your Hopes ran second to Onpicalo at Caulfield last week," Zahra said.
Ellerton and Zahra can take consolation from Price's belief his colts have bright futures.
Price said he had spring plans for both Moonovermanhattan and Seenaan.
"They are both nice horses and they will both get further," he said.
"They will both be spring horses but I don't know what to do with them now. It's a tricky time of year."
