Punters got their wish to have the city race clubs identify horses competing in unofficial jumpouts at Caulfield and Flemington earlier this year but a flashy grey slipped through the system.
Trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra produced a nuggety sprinter to win an 800m jumpout by a space at Flemington on April 16, sending punters and analysts to their computers to identify the horse.
But they initially had no luck.
Flemington racecourse's YouTube page identified the speedster as "First To The Line" but online searches revealed no thoroughbred had carried that name in Australia.
The matter came to the attention of stewards, who duly contacted Ellerton and Zahra to identify the eye-catching grey.
It was established a delay in the completion of paperwork at the Singapore end added to the confusion along with the incorrect spelling of the horse's name.
He was eventually identified as First Tothelign and is set to make his Australian debut in an open sprint over 1000m at Saturday's Caulfield meeting.
First Tothelign won his first three starts in Singapore for trainer Shane Baertschiger before he struggled to see out the distance when fourth in a 1400m race in July last year.
But a bleeding attack ended his time in Asia, prompting his owners to send him to Ellerton and Zahra's stable in the drier Melbourne environment.
"Shane said he bled because he just didn't sweat over there," Zahra said.
"He would just stand in his box and pant and he wouldn't put on weight because he just didn't handle the conditions over there.
"To win three races like he did shows his ability."
Zahra said he and Ellerton would not attempt to stretch First Tothelign to 1400 metres but would keep the gelding to sprint trips as they assessed his ability to measure up in Australia.
The stable will study the field for the $80,000 Caulfield race before deciding whether to delay First Tothelign's maiden Australian appearance until Wednesday week at Sandown.
