The contraction of Nathan Tinkler's bloodstock empire is to take in a further dispersal of his breeding stock, with more cost-cutting to come.

Following on the announcement that Tinkler's Melbourne stables are to close and the sale in October of 200 mares, the beleaguered mining magnate will dispose of some 40 mares at the Inglis Sydney Summer Thoroughbred sale.

Patinack Farm stud manager Ben Lawrence said the immediate aim of the racing and breeding operation that owns more than 1300 horses was to reduce the broodmare band from the existing 400 to 300.

At least 30 of the mares will be sold with foals at foot with some also carrying foals.

Among them is Thunderosa, a stakes-placed Stravinsky mare and the mother of the stakes-placed Motifs. She will be sold with a Casino Prince filly at foot and in foal to Lope de Vega.

Other notable mares in the draft are Lemon Ruski, the dam of stakes winner Real Stolle who has a foal by Husson at foot, Melody, who has a Onemorenomore filly at foot and is in foal to Casino Prince and the stakes performers Happens and Occurrence.

Patinack announced earlier this week it would close it's 50-box Melbourne stable, relying on its Sydney and Brisbane operations.

The latest cost-cutting moves come after Tinkler's horses faced a ban from racing during the Melbourne spring carnival unless he honoured sponsorship and rental agreements made with the Victoria Racing Club and Melbourne Racing Club.

Had he not paid up, his champion three-year-olds All Too Hard and Nechita, and other horses, would have been barred from running at the carnival.

All Too Hard duly won the Caulfield Guineas and finished second in the Cox Plate, netting more than $1 million in prizemoney.

Nechita also collected $300,000 for her win in the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Both horses have the potential to generate substantial income when they retire.

All Too Hard, however, is likely to go on a world racing tour before going to stud, following his older half-sister Black Caviar to Royal Ascot with Japan and Hong Kong also a possibility.
