Dual Group One winning Solzhenitsyn has been retired after pulling up lame in the BRC Sprint at Doomben.
Solzhenitsyn won two Toorak Handicaps and 11 other races, earning more than $1 million.
He finished tailed off in Saturday's BRC Sprint (1350m) and trainer Rob Heathcote immediately ordered a vet's examination which revealed a fetlock injury.
"We don't know the full extent of the injury to a fetlock but it is so bad we are not even going to try and rehabilitate him," Heathcote said.
"He has been a wonderful horse for us. To win two Group Ones and over a million dollars in prize money is great for any $10,000 horse.
"Solzhenitsyn can enjoy the rest of his life in a lush paddock."
Solzhenitsyn had been on the comeback trail from a throat operation and was being aimed at the Doomben 10,000-Stradbroke double.
In better news for Heathcote his mare Fire Up Fifi came through her third the BRC Sprint with flying colours.
"She was really strong to the line. Even her jockey Luke Nolen said wow," Heathcote said.
"About 50 metres after the finish she had powered past the first two."
Heathcote had been toying with the idea of retiring Fire Up Fifi but added blinkers to her gear on Saturday.
"We all know she is going to be better at further than 1350 metres," he said.
"At this stage she will tackle the two fillies and mares races at Eagle Farm, the Dane Ripper and Tatt's Tiara next month."
Heathcote will saddle up Doomben 10,000 favourite Buffering on Saturday and reports the star has done well.
He could also have a hand in the Group Two BRC Sires' Produce (1350m) if he decides to back up Saturday's Dalrello Stakes winner Pinch River.
