Mukhadram in frame for Curragh showpiece

Tuesday 20 May 2014, 9:06am

Dubai World Cup runner-up Mukhadram is in the mix for the Tattersalls Gold Cup this weekend after a pleasing racecourse gallop at Newmarket.

The William Haggas-trained five-year-old is set to return to Royal Ascot in an attempt to go one better in the Prince of Wales's Stakes in which he was narrowly beaten by Al Kazeem last season.

Before that, it seems likely that he will head to The Curragh on Sunday for what would be a mouth watering clash with Magician and Trading Leather.

"He'll certainly be left in. He did everything we wanted at Newmarket the other day," Angus Gold, owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum's racing manager, said.

"I haven't discussed it in detail with Sheikh Hamdan as yet.

"If everyone is pleased with him in the lead up to the race it's a distinct possibility.

"Ascot was always the plan, but I know William is keen to get a race into him beforehand and that is the only option really."

RaceBets make Mukhadram the 4-1 second-favourite for the Curragh showpiece, behind 4-7 market leader Magician. Trading Leather is a 5-1 chance.
