Trainer Rob Heathcote got his wish and bookmakers have equal favourites after star galloper Buffering drew barrier eight in the Doomben 10,000 on Saturday.
A field of 11 accepted for the Group One race with Rebel Dane drawing one from the outside in barrier 10.
Buffering is drawn outside the likely leader in Driefontein, who has barrier five, but inside the other probable speed horse in Hot Snitzel.
Heathcote couldn't hide his smile when Buffering drew three from the outside.
"One of the owners rang me this morning and said he was praying for barrier one. I said `we don't want anywhere near there' and barrier six to nine would be perfect."
"He hasn't been pinging out of the boxes and was sluggish at the start in the BTC Cup. If he does that again being drawn on the inside would be a disaster in a field of this size."
Heathcote said it was better that Buffering be wider where he could wind up and go forward early in the race.
"The 1350-metre start at Doomben has a nice long run to the first turn and the obvious leader in Driefontein is drawn inside him. Hopefully he will be able to slide over and sit on the leader," he said.
Buffering is sharing Doomben 10,000 favouritism with Rebel Dane at $4 with Spirit Of Boom on the next line of betting at $4.80.
Heathcote said he had been happy with the way Buffering had recovered from a hard run when third in the Group One BTC Cup on May 10.
The spotlight will be on Buffering who is attempting to win a Brisbane Group One at his 10th attempt.
He has only missed prize money once in his nine Brisbane Group One starts, when seventh in the 2011 Doomben 10,000 behind Beaded.
Buffering finished second in the 2012 Doomben 10,000 and then third in the race last year.
