Trainer John Thompson is set to saddle up his final Group One runner for owner Nathan Tinkler when Peron lines up in the Doomben 10,000 on Saturday.
Tinkler confirmed on Wednesday that his Patinack Farm breeding and racing operation, which had been on the market for a year, had been sold to a consortium of local and overseas buyers.
Thompson has done a great job in spite of his roller coaster ride as Patinack Farm's head trainer but admits he isn't sure what the future holds.
However, he confirmed Peron would race in Tinkler's colours on Saturday and said a victory in the prestigious Brisbane sprint would be a fitting way to end their partnership.
"It's nice to win a Group One race anytime but I suppose (especially) for him given he is going out of racing," Thompson said.
Perhaps pre-empting the imminent sale of Patinack Farm, Tinkler removed a handful of horses from Thompson's Randwick stable last week.
Of the 20 horses Thompson still has in work in Sydney, he estimates around half are owned by Patinack Farm with the others raced by external clients.
Thompson also has another 15 horses in Queensland, including Peron.
While the respected horseman isn't sure what the immediate future holds he is hoping to make his mark beyond Patinack Farm.
"One door closes and hopefully new ones open," Thompson said.
