Jockey Tye Angland got the perfect result to relaunch his Australian career when he scored an upset win on Time For War in the Group Two BRC Sires' Produce Stakes at Doomben.
However, rival jockey Nash Rawiller declared the runner-up Brazen Beau a certainty beaten after the colt bungled the start.
Angland has returned to riding in Sydney after four years in Hong Kong.
He said he was thrilled to be back in Australia and riding at the carnivals.
"I have had plenty of luck in Brisbane over the years. We follow the carnivals closely in Hong Kong and I have been keen to get back for them."
"We gapped them on the corner today and that is where we won the race."
Time For War ($18) bounced straight to the lead and was never headed in beating the favourite Brazen Beau ($1.85) with a length to Looks Like The Cat ($6.50).
Stable foreman Sterling Alexio said Time for War had been a work in progress.
"He is a real Jekyll and Hyde horse. We knew after he won the Pago Pago Stakes in Sydney during the autumn he was a handy horse," he said.
"But he can do a few things wrong in his races. The real Time for War stood up today."
Alexio said the addition of blinkers had probably been the key to Time For War's win on Saturday.
"He switched on today and now we will have to think about whether to run him in the Group One JJ Atkins Stakes," he said.
"It is over 1600 metres and we will have to see how the horse pulls up before we make a final decision."
However, Alexio said Time For War had thrived in Brisbane.
Time For War was bought by Darby Racing at the Scone yearling sale after he was too immature to go to earlier auctions.
Rawiller said Brazen Beau had done a "bunny hop" out of the barriers and given away too much start.
"I told the owners to forget about today and look forward to the 1600-metre race at Eagle Farm in a fortnight (the J J Atkins), ' Rawiller said.
