The Caulfield Guineas will be the spring carnival goal for Lucky Tom after his all-the-way victory in The Phoenix at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Trainer Harold Norman won't be tempted to back up Lucky Tom ($19) in next Saturday's Group One J J Atkins (1600m), preferring to look longer term.
"I said to the owners I'd give him five starts as a two-year-old then put him away for the spring," Norman said.
"He'll be entered for all the good three-year-old races including the Caulfield Guineas and you'll see the best of him later in the year."
Norman ordered a gear change for Lucky Tom after the gelding finished only 10th in the Ken Russell Memorial at the Gold Coast earlier this month.
"He was wanting to run away from other horses but since I put the blinkers and pacifiers on him he's raced a lot better," he said.
"Down the track he won't need them and you'll find he'll be able to come from behind and win instead of having to lead."
Meanwhile, Sunshine Coast trainer Trevor Thomas will seek a home track feature race win with enigmatic mare Ellawisdom after her barnstorming victory in the Bright Shadow Handicap (1200m).
Defying the pattern of earlier races, Ellawisdom ($41) swept down the outside from last on the home turn to win by 1-1/2 lengths from Avaladyluck ($6) with Saturn Rock ($21) a head away third.
The mare will be kept fresh for the Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) at the Sunshine Coast on June 28.
"She's goes super at home over the 1400 metres and she also likes to be kept on the fresh side so the Glasshouse might be where we head with her next," Thomas said.
"Nine times out of 10 she beats herself by missing the start but she's always threatened to win a good race."
She's Clean, the $3.20 favourite, was badly blocked for a run on the home turn but finished the race off strongly in the final stages to finish fifth.
