Grangewilliam Launches Haradasun’s NZ career

Tuesday 3 June 2014, 12:43pm

Mark and Jane Corcoran’s Waitotara operation, north of Wanganui, will be the new home for the multiple Group One winner Haradasun, whose progeny have already performed to the highest level.

A son of Fusaichi Pegasus and the Gr.1 Australian Oaks winner Circles Of Gold, he is the sire of the Gr.2 Stan Fox Stakes winner Kabayan, who was runner-up in the Gr.1 TJ Smith Stakes, while Harry’s Son was recently third in the Gr.1 Gold Medallion Handicap in South Africa.

Other leading representatives include the Gr.2 Western Australian Derby winner Respondent, who also

has two Listed successes to his credit, and the Listed Nudgee Handicap winner Tukiyo while Prince Harada is a dual Group Three placegetter.

Haradasun’s two-year-old son Modoc has won twice this season and placed in the Gr.2 Skyline Stakes and the Listed Inglis Premier Stakes before he finished midfield in the Gr.1 Golden Slipper.

His promising daughter Sunbeam won for the fourth time in her career at Ellerslie on Saturday while Haradasun’s half-brother Elvstroem, another multiple Group One winner, sired Britt Ekland who was also successful at the meeting.

Grangewilliam secured Haradasun after a meeting between Corcoran’s father John and Coolmore’s New Zealand representative Gordon Calder.

“They were talking at the Sydney weanling sale and John asked if they would be interested in re-locating the horse over here and that’s how it’s eventuated,” Corcoran said.

“We’ve been keeping an eye out for the right sort of horse and the beauty with Haradasun is that he’s got runners out there with over 70 winners. His oldest are four-year-olds with 46 individual winners from that crop.”

Haradasun was the Group One winner of the Doncaster Handicap, George Ryder Stakes and the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. He was the champion Australian three-year-old colt of his year and the champion older miler of England.

From the family of the champion Australian and European sprinter Starspangledbanner, Haradasun will stand at a fee of $5000 + GST, the same as associate sire Zed, who covered more than 160 mares last season.

Also on the roster are Tobique, who will be offered at $3000 + GST, and newcomer Dial A Prayer at $500 + GST.
