What was supposed to be a quiet trial cost Future Solution seven months of his career.
Trainer Kane Harris sent the gelding to a trial at Mornington to keep him fit in October last year but Future Solution limped off the track with a leg fracture.
Harris said another horse kicked Future Solution before his scheduled trial, breaking a splint bone and forcing the trainer to take him to a veterinary clinic in Ballarat for surgery.
"We were getting him ready for a stakes race at Mornington and we were using the trial to tighten him up because he'd had a month between runs," Harris said.
"It was a real pain for that to happen."
Harris nominated Future Solution for the Golden Topaz (1200m) at Swan Hill on Friday as well as Saturday's Melbourne Signage Concepts Handicap (1000m) at Moonee Valley before opting for the latter.
Harris said a first-up win would surprise but the stable was thrilled to have its best horse back at the races.
"It will be good to have the flagship back and running because he's been a really solid campaigner for us," he said.
"All I want to see him do is to be finishing his race off well."
Harris plans to campaign Future Solution through the Winter Championship Series which culminates in the $150,000 final at Flemington on July 12.
The seven-year-old finished fourth to Glaneuse in the 2012 Winter Championship Final and Harris said a wet winter would help Future Solution's chances of improving on that result.
"We are going to plot our way to the Winter Championship so he'll go to Cranbourne after this or Flemington for a heat," Harris said.
"Hopefully the wet tracks hang around for a bit but he can win on top of the ground as well as winning on the softer going."
Apprentice Aaron Mitchell will partner Future Solution in Saturday's Moonee Valley assignment.
