Racing Queensland will consider introducing a local rule to cover handicapping in black type races with weights for another feature race thrown into disarray.
The weights for Saturday's Listed Strawberry Road Handicap at Eagle Farm were raised two kilograms when late entries Tromso (59kg) and Coup Ay Tee (58.5kg) were not among the acceptors.
They were two of three late entries for Sydney trainer Chris Waller with Eigelstein his lone runner.
Under the rules the decision not to accept with Tromso and Coup Ay Tee meant all the weights had to be raised to ensure a minimum topweight of 58kg.
It also meant the horses on the minimum had their weights lifted to 56kg.
If the Strawberry Road had been a non black-type race it would have been re-handicapped with those on the minimum still likely to get 54kg.
The same problem arose at the start of the winter carnival in the Listed Tails Stakes when the entire field carried 58kg.
Chief executive Darren Condon said RQ was aware of the problem.
"We have already said after the Tails Handicap situation we will look closely at the problem which doesn't seem to affect the south like it does us," Condon said.
"One thing we might do is have a local rule a black-type race can be re-handicapped or that late entries must accept but can be scratched later."
