Word Of Mouth's stocks rise

Word Of Mouth's last-start third behind Sonntag has taken on extra significance after the latter's win in the Queensland Derby.

But for Word of Mouth's trainer Leon Corstens, the Derby result was also bittersweet with Pinstripe Lane, trained by his son Troy, beaten a head in Saturday's Group One race.

"I would have preferred my son's horse to win it," Corstens said.

"But it does show Word Of Mouth's form. He is a horse with promise and hopefully he can go on with it now."

Word Of Mouth has not raced since his 2-3/4 length third over 2000 metres at Caulfield on May 17 and accompanied stable star Commanding Jewel in a raceday gallop at Moonee Valley on Saturday ahead of his return at Flemington.

The gelding runs over 2000 metres on Saturday with Michael Rodd to ride.

Word Of Mouth is a half brother to short course specialist Diamond To Pegasus and is by Not A Single Doubt, a stakes winning sprinter who ran second to Dance Hero in the 2004 Magic Millions Classic.

Despite his breeding, Word Of Mouth's two wins have been over 1980 and 2015 metres at Tatura and Seymour respectively before his Caulfield placing.

Corstens also has 2012 South Australian Derby winner Zabeelionaire among his team at Flemington with the five-year-old to run over 2500 metres in a heat of the Banjo Paterson Series.

The trainer has done his best to avoid wet tracks with Zabeelionaire but says he will run on Saturday even if the predicted rain comes.

Zabeelionaire recorded his first slow track placing from five attempts at Morphettville on May 10 before running fifth behind Makybe Diva's half sister La Amistad in the McKell Cup at Randwick two weeks later when the track was dead.

"He is going so well and he is up and running so he goes to Flemington," Corstens said.

Zabeelionaire has 56.5kg on Saturday with Permit, who finished behind him in the McKell Cup, topweight with 60kg.
