In a bid to continue the push to make the $3 million weight-for-age race an international event, the Moonee Valley Racing Club on Wednesday announced it had pinpointed a star-studded group of horses from six different countries that it hoped to attract to the October 25 race.
At the top of the tree is Japanese champion Just A Way, who is rated the best thoroughbred in the world.
Just A Way continued his winning streak over the weekend with a fourth straight Group race victory to narrowly defeat Grand Prix Boss in the Group One Yasuda Kinen (1600m) in Tokyo.
Moore has a strong hand with Dan Excel, Designs On Rome and Military Attack on the invitation list.
Dan Excel stormed home to win the Group One Singapore Airlines International Cup at Kranji in track record time with Australian hoop Tommy Berry in the saddle.
Berry has also partnered Designs On Rome in his past six races which included Group One victories in the Queen Elizabeth II Cup, Hong Kong Derby and Hong Kong Classic Cup.
Military Attack, who won the 2013 Singapore Airlines International Cup and Queen Elizabeth II Cup, added the Hong Kong Gold Cup in February.
Cirrus des Aigles, who won his sixth Group One for trainer Corine Barande-Barbe in the Coronation Cup over the weekend, is one of two French runners invited along with the Pascal Bary-trained Smoking Gun.
Godolphin's Group One Dubai World Cup winner African Story has also attracted the attention of Moonee Valley officials, along with superstar Frankel's full brother Noble Mission who claimed his maiden Group One victory in the Tattersalls Gold Cup in May.
Another standout on the list is Group One Irish Derby winner Trading Leather who is trained by Jim Bolger in Ireland.
