Joe Pride will take over the Warwick Farm stable of the late Guy Walter from next month.
Walter's wife Wendy, who has been operating the stable on an interim licence since the trainer's sudden death last month, has decided not to continue in that role.
John Bateman, long time foreman for the Walters' satellite stable at Goulburn, will take out a trainer's licence and continue to pre-train and train from that base.
In a letter to owners, Wendy Walter said Pride was the ideal person to take over at Warwick Farm and thanked the many people who have helped her over the past few weeks.
"The last few weeks have presented many unexpected changes for my life, our business and the stable of Guy Walter," she said.
"The stable has been operating smoothly in recent weeks with several winners and placegetters. In-form stables have momentum and fortunately our horses' performances have continued largely up to expectation.
"Most notably, our stable's success was a consequence of Guy's personal judgment with horses.
"I have carefully considered potential future plans in the last couple of weeks, with many of my private conversations with Guy repeating in my head.
"Ultimately I have decided on a transition to wind down the stable and close on July 5 with our last runners to perform on that day.
"I am very grateful and honoured to have had your support through this challenging time over the past few weeks but feel that Guy was an irreplaceable part of the business.
"Joe and Guy enjoyed mutual respect as trainers and men.
"I therefore am very comfortable in recommending him to those of you who would like to leave your horses in his professional care.
