Smart two-year-old Pinch River took another step towards confirming his rating as the Robert Heathcote stable's next Buffering at Ipswich on Saturday.
Heathcote has surprised many by comparing Pinch River with the three-time Group One star Buffering at the same stage of their careers.
Buffering, who has now won $4.4 million in prizemoney, won four races as a two-year-old, including a 1100m feature race at Ipswich.
Pinch River won his fourth race as a two-year-old in the Sirromet Bundamba Plate (1100m) on Saturday.
"I have said it a few times and he does remind me a lot of Buffering at the same stage," Heathcote said.
Heathcote said apprentice Aidan Holt followed instructions to the letter to win on Pinch River from a wide barrier.
Pinch River ($3.60) settled behind the leaders before scoring by a head over Divine Service ($12).
Heathcote admitted Pinch River had probably been a run short when he led but was beaten into fifth place in the Hampden Stakes at his previous start.
"I told Aidan not to force him to lead and to sit on them. He is a great lad and if he can keep his weight under control he has a bright future," he said.
Meanwhile, the Matthew Dunn-trained La Tikka Rosa charged home to the Ray White Ipswich Dash (1100m) after reverting to her sit and sprint race style.
The victory followed her unplaced run at Eagle Farm two weeks ago at Eagle Farm.
"We made a mistake in riding her for pace and she is obviously better when the pace is on and she can rattle home," Dunn said.
La Tikka Rosa will be set for the Brisbane fillies and mares series during the summer.
