Jason Coyle thought enough of Scream Machine to enter him for the Stradbroke Handicap but after he missed a start the trainer was also happy to pick up a win at Rosehill.
Scream Machine was the fifth emergency for last Saturday's Group One in Brisbane and was the favourite a week later for the 1400m open handicap in Sydney.
He justified his $3.50 quote with his late finishing burst through the pack to beat Taxmeifyoucan ($6.50) by 1-1/4 lengths.
Coyle will now target the upcoming Listed Civic Stakes and Winter Stakes with Scream Machine whose rider Tye Angland drew praise from the trainer.
"He likes to be ridden like that," Coyle said.
"He balanced up perfectly and it worked out how we hoped.
"It was a bit ambitious for a benchmark 91 horse to get a run in a Group One race but it was worth a lot of money so we put him in.
"We will stay in Sydney with him now and contest the Listed races coming up.
"He is a horse who has more than paid his way and comes up every preparation."
Scream Machine has won six races from 1400 to 2000 metres but Coyle said he was unlikely to go to the longer distance again this campaign.
The Civic Stakes on July 5 is over 1350 metres with the Winter Stakes two weeks later over 1400.
