Bookmakers have her as a long shot but Caulfield trainer John Moloney says Cobblestones has a few things in her favour for her Moonee Valley assignment.
Cobblestones is a $41 chance in early betting on Saturday's Eurozone Handicap (1200m) after leading and fading when fifth behind the impressive Dig A Pony over 1400m at Flemington last Saturday.
"It was her first run for five weeks and she might have raced a bit fresh," Moloney said.
Moloney noted Cobblestones had raced well on tight tracks previously with the three-year-old notching both her wins on the tricky Mornington circuit.
The trainer also said Cobblestones showed she raced best over 1200m when second behind the subsequent Group Two winner Spirits Dance at Flemington on New Year's Day.
Cobblestones' breeding also provides another pointer with her dam Deloraine also handling the Moonee Valley circuit with aplomb, winning a race over 1500m and finishing second in the Group Two Moonee Valley Fillies' Classic in 2007.
"The mother didn't mind the track either so let's hope the daughter ends up liking Moonee Valley as well," Moloney said.
Moloney also provided an endorsement for Cobblestones when he returned to a yearling sale earlier this year to buy her half-brother by Congrats for $100,000.
Cobblestones is the fourth and most successful of Deloraine's progeny Moloney has trained but he has high hopes for her younger half-sister by Street Cry named Banner Rose.
"I know the family is sound of limb and sound in the breathing department so that's why I followed up and bought her half-brother," Moloney said.
Moloney has engaged apprentice Harry Coffey to take 2kg off Cobblestones's handicap, leaving her to carry 54kg in the $80,000 contest.
